If you are looking for a new place to travel or something to add to your bucket list, put Quebec City at the TOP of your list!! I recently was lucky enough to visit this beautiful city for a girls trip and I still can’t believe it’s real. We visited right before Christmas, literally the week before and it was actually the most perfect time to go. The whole city is decked out in all the Christmas decor and locals actually said this was their ‘down time’ compared to busier weeks in January and February. It literally felt like it was our group of girls and locals, no long waits at any restaurants and finding an uber didn’t take too long either! I had such an amazing time and I wanted to document my favorite parts, places we ate, the many drinks we drank and all the in between. I will break it down into categories to make it easier to read, hopefully!
Where to stay:
We stayed at the Hilton Quebec because one of our friends sons works for Hilton, so we got a really good deal! It was in a perfect location to quickly Uber to the main area in like 5 minutes. We wanted to walk but it was just too cold and snowy! I know a lot of people recommend staying at the Chateau Frontenac(the famous beautiful hotel). We visited it instead and had high tea there, which I will talk about later because AMAZING! So if you are going and want to save some money on hotel, definitely recommend the Hilton, it is going through a major renovation so it should be done within a year and will be SO nice.
The view from out hotel room at the Hilton Quebec. My favorite way to wake up each day in this magical city.
Oh and this hotel pairs well with matching pjs of course(oh and moose slippers).
Eats:
Oh my goodness, where do I even start. Food is my favorite part of traveling and I absolutely love researching the best eats a city has to offer and planning our days around all the yummy food. For dinners, we had some pretty amazing food that you have to try if you go to Quebec. The first night we arrived, we had a casual dinner at Le Chic Shack(we went alone just for the name haha) very on brand with LPOC. They are known for boozy milkshakes and burgers, so we said HECK yes. I ordered the maple whiskey milkshake and the le chic burger with truffle fries, holy yum. We absolutely loved the casual, chill atmosphere and affordable cuisine. And yes, Americans traveled all the way to Canada and immediately ordered burgers & fries. And yes, they are delish.
Another dinner we loved was at Lapin Saute. It was the most ‘french’ place we ate at. Very small, cozy restaurant with unreal entrees. I ordered the open faced roast beef sandwich with frites and champagne. We ended the meal with sugar pie(MOST AMAZING DESSERT). It’s basically the most amazing honey/maple pie ever. Perfect date night spot.
The last dinner that we loved the MOST was Sapristi. It’s described as cheery, Italian cuisine and it was exactly that. We loved everything from the cheese board, cocktails(must order: Mona Spritz) to the rich, delicious pasta(I ordered the pasta carbonara and we also loved the bacon mac n cheese) and finished with the baked s’mores to share.
We love Sapristi and Mona spritzes!
For drinks: We frequented a few pubs/bars that we quickly became regulars at haha! We loved Q’de Sac for really good cocktails and a fun atmosphere. They have hockey shots and a bar that lights on fire! So fun! Look for us on the wall on a polaroid picture haha! See proof below haha!!
Another bar we loved was right in front of the Funiculaire sign and serves 6 maple whiskey shots for $10, that’s all I know haha. It’s a typical bar/pub, it’s in the petit champlain area with all the shops and restaurants! Here is a picture of the bottle of maple whiskey that we all took a bottle of home! I also recommend Bar 1608 which is inside the famous hotel, Chateau Frontenac. High quality cocktails and truffle popcorn for the win.
For brunch/coffee:
We had the most delicious brunch at La Buche! We loved the french toast, crepes, canadian bacon and mimosas! So yum! Definitely try poutine when traveling to Quebec, it’s their famous fries with cheese and gravy, so weird but actually so good.
For coffee, I loved Cafe La Maison Smith. There are 2 locations and both are super cute! We went to the Petit Champlain location. The other coffee shop we loved was Cafe Saint Henri. Unreal atmosphere and the best donuts and lattes! I ordered the vanilla donut and mocha!
To do’s:
My number one recommendation when traveling to Quebec is to go dog sledding! It was so worth the price and the coolest thing I’ve possibly ever done! We did it with Le Chenil Au Chalet and it was very organized, clean and amazing from start to finish!! You can get snow gear for $25 and after dog sledding, you get puppy playtime and hot chocolate, best time ever.
Another thing we loved was the Christkindlmarket! It is only on the weekends I believe! It is so fun to walk around and grab a snack, dessert or mulled wine! Right near it is the famous Christmas shop, La Boutique de Noel where we bought some adorable Christmas ornaments and souvenirs!
Other must do’s:
-High Tea at Chateau Frontenac(around $55 American dollars and worth every penny! Such a fun experience and it’s like 6 courses!
-Sledding at the Chateau near the Funiculaire.
-Shopping and taking photos basically anywhere because the streets are amazing!!
Things I might skip(didn’t live up to the hype):
We went on the ferry one night because we were told it was the best view of Quebec and that it had a bar on it, well neither of these things seemed to be true! It is just public transportation and we wouldn’t recommend going on it at night. Also, the famous funiculaire which is essentially a 2 minute ride elevator for $3 was not really as cool as we thought it would be. Other than that, there are no complaints(besides the ones we sent to Air Canada haha!).
If you made it this far, you win for being the most patient person. Sorry it was so lengthy, I had a lot to say I guess!
Best girls trip EVER!
